What were you doing before this traineeship?

I started this traineeship at CIMS, with no previous experience or formal academic training. My past employment has been very varied, as before now I haven’t been able to find something I truly enjoy, or want to pursue. After leaving college in 2008, I started working in retail roles; Woolworths, Asda, JD Sports, Argos and Debenhams. Apart from interacting with customers, I found retail extremely boring and mind numbing, so I decided I wanted to try new things. This led me into working as a laborer, post man and a railway engineer. Although I really enjoyed being out and about and the physical side of those roles, I still felt the need for something else. Now I am here!

What has been your favourite part of the traineeship so far?

It’s hard to point out one particular part of the traineeship; I’ve enjoyed nearly every aspect. The learning, traveling, responsibility, guidance, opportunities and connections we make though networking. My biggest achievement and most proud moment however, is the I-Am Rap event I organised and hosted at Ipswich Museum. This was the first time CIMS had ever hosted a rap event inside the museum…inside the museum! Having no experience in engaging with museum audiences, or events or project management, CIMS still gave me the chance and opportunity to do this, and it was really successful.
