Alex was a 2015 – 16 Training Museum Trainee based in Colchester.
What were you doing before the traineeship?
I worked for a pre-employment screening company for a year. I also volunteered with Breast Cancer Now and The Children’s Society as a student fundraiser.
What has been your favourite part of the traineeship?
I’m really enjoying the variety! Every day is different and you’re never sure what you’ll be doing – be that planning an exhibition or learning about live interpretation. If I had to pick one thing, I’d say my best experience so far was going to the Moving On Up! Conference in Liverpool. Meeting so many passionate and inspirational young museum professionals has encouraged me to work harder and find new opportunities to gain experience outside of work.
Quick fire five:
1. Favourite type of cheese?
I’m not really a big fan of cheese (I know, disgraceful), but I do appreciate some good ol’ English Cheddar from time to time.
2. Childhood dream job?
I wanted to be a doctor, but unfortunately I am completely inept at anything scientific.
3. Which three people you would invite to a dinner party (dead or alive)?
Jack Kerouac, David Attenborough and Amelia Earhart
4. Favourite past times?
Watching movies is probably my favourite thing to do, though I do also enjoy reading, drawing and swimming.
5. Favourite animal?
It’s a toss-up between spectacled flying foxes and sea lions.
