Name: Taryn

Role: Education Volunteer

Since March 2016, I have been fortunate enough to work as an Education Volunteer with Elle Root (Collections and Learning Curator). We are developing a new STEM schools’ workshop for Christchurch Mansion, called ‘Maths and Science with the Tudors’, due to be piloted in September 2016.

The opportunity to work with Elle on the planning of this Key Stage 2 workshop has been an extremely enjoyable and valuable experience, since I have gained first-hand insight into the process of developing schools’ workshops and, as well as playing an active role in the design of the workshop activities, I will also be involved in the organisation and delivery of the initial pilot sessions.

I am an MA Museum Studies student, a local resident and regular Chirstchurch Mansion guide, with a particular interest in developing a career in museum Education and Community Outreach. Playing a key role in creating a cross-curriculum workshop, which engages local children with the rich heritage of Christchurch Mansion, is not only beneficial for my career development, but a project close to my heart.
