What were you doing before this traineeship?

I have just finished studying a Level 3 diploma in Art and Design at a residential college in Somerset and before that I was away at a boarding school for four years. Studying away from home for a long period of time has given me such an invaluable experience of living independently and has definitely been life changing, but now I am happy to be home in Ipswich again! In between studying, I have done some voluntary work in a variety of settings. This has included museums and heritage sites, but I have also done work for MENCAP and in a café.

What has been your favourite part of the traineeship?

My favourite part is being fully immersed within the museum environment and gaining valuable knowledge and experience of the sector. Before I started working here, I knew I loved museums and objects, but never did I think about the work that goes on behind the scenes. This has become apparent through the formal training sessions we initially undertook, which have helped inform the further work we do. I have also enjoyed being able to put my new skills and training into practice, by undertaking my own independent projects.

Quick fire five:

1. Favourite drink?

Cloudy cider or a proper cup of coffee, depending on mood.

2. What music do you listen to?

From Beethoven to Coldplay to Little Mix, I tend to enjoy a variety of music.

3. Childhood dream job?

Police officer or world famous artist

4. Which three people you would invite to a dinner party (dead or alive)?

David Starkey, Maggi Hambling and Boris Johnson (Probably not all at once though!)

5. What do you do in your spare time?

Painting and drawing, reading, art galleries, exhibitions and museums, swimming, going out to cafes and restaurants.
